Bio Science Conference at the Convention Center!

I am excited to say that Maria and I will be attending this Arizona Industry Association conference on October 3rd. Thanks to the recommendation by Dr. Cotter we decided to give this conference a shot, and sure enough, we were accepted got the email confirming our attendance. This will be the first conference we will be attending for the year, so we are going to dedicate some time to practice our presentation and to get more familiar with speaking in front of crowds of people again. I am really excited to be attending this conference and to see what kind of research other people are doing around the valley. It should be a good learning experience for us.

    OMG! Congratulations on getting into the Conference! I'm super excited for both of you to attend! If y'all want to practice your presentation in front of anyone, I'll be in the lab on Friday and definitely don't mind lending my ears! You girls rock!

    I thought you guys did an awesome job relaying the info to me. I'm sure that you'll be amazing. I'm excited to hear about it. When you were talking about it, it sounded like it had the potential to be one of the more fun conferences. Make sure to take good mental notes about the research happening in our area! I wanna hear about that!

Now that the WAESO conference is out of the way, our group can now focus on the next step of our project. Our biggest project now is starting the biodegradation process with our different types of microplastics and  Pseudomonas species.  Before we started any measuring, some preparation had to be done. We must shred more plastics to work with and we decided to incubate a fresh set of  Pseudomonas species. After all the preparation is completed then we can start the biodegradation process and we will finally get to measure if the different types of Pseudomonas species can aid in the biodegradation of microplastics in water. This experiment will consist of a lot of variables and patience, but I am hoping, in the end, it will be worth it.

My College Experiences

  Picture My college experience has been all over the place. I first started at Phoenix College, which was an amazing experience. After taking all the courses for an associate's degree, I transferred to ASU West campus. I can relate this transition to when someone is moving to another job and moving to another company. This transition at first was not easy for me. The change took some time to get used to, but I can only imagine how it feels when you move somewhere new or get a new job. Another college experience that I can relate to as an employer-desired experience is my specified classes that are in forensic science. For example, the first class I took when I first transferred was a principles in forensic science, and to this day, this has been one of my favorite classes. I learned so many forensics techniques that I know that I can apply to a work field. Lastly, another college experience would be using the techniques I used to meet new people and professors. On the Hunt!?

But we are waiting on some of our materials to come in the mail so that we can wait on our next phase of the project. As we wait for that I don't know about you but I have been studying for all these midterms going on. It was kind of a relief that the week we ordered supplies and waited that it was midterms week as well, so far I have been doing good. Anyways I cannot wait till our materials come in and we can get begin a new phase in our project.
